How was this made?
While the original game; Minecraft was being successful, we thought about doing spinoffs that could expand the Minecraft universe. So the team in Mojang that made Scrolls; or now Callers Bane, started making a new game. We originaly thought it could be a game similar to something like The Legend of Zelda or games like that. But as we were steamrolling development, we decided to add multiplayer features to the game. So we changed stuff so it would be more fun with multiple people. We had difficulty morphing the world of Minecraft into gameplay like Diablo, or other dungeon crawlers, so we figured out we could do progression via tools with enchantments as alternatives to character classes. We also wanted the game to be more accessable to people who didn't usually play dungeon crawlers, but also with a high skill ceiling, so people who play the main game could also play Minecraft Dungeons. So we impelmented familier systems like crafting, but with changes to better fit the gameplay. We also added difficulties so the game can be more approachable.
We announced the game in September 26th, 2018 in MINECON Earth 2018 as something resembling Minecraft, but it played differently. It was originally going to release around April of 2020. However, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we delayed it to May 26th of the same year. A closed beta of the game ran from March 25th to April 24th.
Post-Launch
We have made many DLCs for Dungeons. The first one that we released, "Jungle Awakens" did on July 1st, 2020. We later released "Creeping Winter" and "Howling Peaks" later that year. In 2021, we also released "Flames of The Nether", "Hidden Depths", and Echoing Void". We also released an Ultimate Edition, with all of the DLC, on July 28th, 2021.
