NEW! Ian Rogers Joins Nullsoft R E L E A S E D
APR.20.99
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
IAN ROGERS SIGNS LANDMARK DEAL WITH NULLSOFT

In a move that shocked the tech and entertainment sectors as well as the NBA, Ian Rogers announced today that he's leaving Sony Online Entertainment and taking a position at Sedona, AZ-based Nullsoft, the software firm responsible for the hit audio software Winamp (#2 on Download.com) as well as the streaming audio system known as SHOUTcast. Ian has spent the past six months coding happily at Sony on games such as JEOPARDY! and Wheel of Fortune. You may be familiar with his work as CTO of rVision/Big Gun Project, or his travels on North American jaunts as Internet liaison for the Beastie Boys.

There is still a shroud of mystery around this move, as both Ian and Nullsoft have refused to answer questions regarding the new project they're working on together, and whether or not Ian is relocating to Sedona. "I'm working on my backside smith grinds," was Ian's only comment.

Stay tuned for updates. In the meantime, play musical sausage.

NEW! Winamp 2.11 in beta, MS Audio 4.0 Support R E L E A S E D
APR.13.99
With Tuesday's announcement of MS Audio 4.0, we've prepared Winamp 2.11 with support for this new impressive format. Some tidbits about Winamp's MS Audio 4 (WMA) support can be found in the WMA + Winamp FAQ. Winamp 2.11 will support both the encoding and playback of WMA files. We'll release Winamp 2.11 to the public soon.

MP3Spy 1.0, SHOUTcast 1.1, MP3 PCA R E L E A S E D
APR.10.99
Our AA buddy Mark Surfas, seen here enjoying a liquorice flavored liquer, informed us that Winamp's best friend, MP3Spy 1.0 is out now. Anyone who uses Winamp for SHOUTcast should check out MP3Spy. MP3Spy is a SHOUTcast "front-end" that adds chat to every SHOUTcast stream. Holy shiznat!

The chatter at the Nullsoft HQ watercooler is that Justin and Tom plan to release the new SHOUTcast Server 1.1 later this week. Confirmed sources close to the parties say that Winamp 2.1 is already SHOUTcast 1.1 optimized. Not too shabby.

We love shizzy gadgets at Nullsoft like pricey ultra-slim notebooks and cyber goggles, but there's one undeveloped product concept that gets our spendorphins flowing: a MP3 portable cassette adapter (PCA). Imagine an MP3 portable shaped to fit your car's cassette deck. Pop the MP3 PCA into your cassette deck to play your MP3s. Track and volume controls pop off the end and remain connected by a wire for controlling the MP3 PCA. The MP3 PCA design should include a headphone jack for traditional private listening. Million dollar concept courtesy of Justin Frankel.

Finally, Team Nullsoft will be attending the MS Audio 4.0 launch on Tuesday night, April 13th at the House of Blues in Los Angeles. Come party with us if you can.

Winamp 2.10 hits the streets R E L E A S E D
MAR.24.99
After many weeks in waiting, we've unleashed Winamp 2.10 on the masses. There's an AWFUL lot of new cool features inside, and you really ought to take a gander at what's new.

Take a look up above for the new featureset and a glimpse of the interface, and head on over to the download section whenever you're ready to pick it up!

The most interesting addition to Winamp is the addition of the minibrowser. Think of it as a go-to place for information on tracks you're listening to, a SHOUTcast radio stream you're tuned to, or any other web resource pertaining to a file you've acquired. Keep watching that space, because a bajillion new and fantastic features will automatically arrive within that tiny window automatically. You're gonna love what we're up to, I guarantee it.

Lots of people have emailed me already asking about where to find different Language modules for the Language Pack support in 2.10. We'll be making some available from our website soon.

Check it out! We hope you'll enjoy using it as much as we do!

(Oh, and happy 21st birthday to my favorite girlfriend! *smewch*)

ADDENDUM(Mar 25): If you're having problems with winamp crashing on CD audio, try quitting out of Winamp, and then delete your CDDB logfile, which is usually stored in c:\program files\winamp\in_cdda.cdb. If it still crashes, you can disable Winamp's control over the CD Player in Prefs->File Types.

NEW! Grand Royal Radio R E L E A S E D
MAR.17.99
UPDATE: Nullsoft and Grand Royal have published a press release. If you're into that kind of thing, check out our press release page. Beastie Boy's Mike D says of SHOUTcast, "The future is here and it kind of works for a change." Heh heh, right on.

Coolness. Grand Royal Records, the Beastie Boys' own label, is SHOUTcasting live 24/7. Listen now with Winamp. Check out http://yp.SHOUTcast.com for more cool Winamp radio webcasts.

NEW! Status Update R E L E A S E D
MAR.4.99
Yeesh! Has it been over a month already? We haven't really noticed since we've been so busy working on Winamp (and a few other suprises). Winamp 2.10 should hopefully be out by the middle of this month, sporting a lot of new features and optimizations. We also have a cool new visualization plug-in in the cooker, click here for a preview. We will also be releasing a new version of our SHOUTcast system soon, so stay tuned.

Mailing Lists Ride Again (sorta) R E L E A S E D
JAN.21.99
UPDATE: We've updated our list server for unlimited capacity -- if you had problems subscribing earlier, please try again now!

We're trying out an announcement mailing list server again, with a new robust email server! If you're interested in helping us test it out, and being advised about new Winamp product releases, you can send a message to join-announce@listserv.winamp.com. You don't need a subject line, or anything in the message body. You'll get a message back asking you to confirm your subscription.

I'll work on a web-based subscription interface for the lists, if this works out. We'll also probably start up development mailing lists and general mailing lists for Winamp and SHOUTcast.
